Dr. Alice Besterman, Principle Investigator
Besterman is an ecologist interested in all things muddy. She investigates applied and fundamental questions relating ecosystem structure and process with habitat-use by invertebrate and vertebrate animals. Besterman works in coastal wetlands, lagoons, estuaries, and tidal mudflats.
Besterman completed a B.S. in Environmental Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013, and a PhD in Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia in 2019. Besterman worked as a NE CASC Postdoctoral Fellow with the Woodwell Climate Research Center and Buzzards Bay Coalition from 2020-2022. In January 2023, Besterman was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Biological Science at Towson University, Towson Maryland.
